Job Description Summary
The Program in African American Studies at Wake Forest University is seeking a thoughtful, detail-oriented, and creative professional for the Program/Project Coordinator position to support activities of the Mellon Foundation funded “Environmental and Epistemic Justice: A Transformative Humanistic Model for Science and Technology Studies". This position will support the project principal investigator (PI) in the day-to-day administration, organization and coordination of the project. The Program/Project Coordinator will gain experience and training in project management, coordinating university and community partnerships, organizing research seminars and public programming, and interacting with a variety of campus and community stakeholders.

Job Description
Environmental and Epistemic Justice: A Transformative Humanistic Model for Science and Technology Studies” is a multi-pronged effort by Wake Forest to imagine, design, and develop a novel humanistic science and technology studies curriculum that places at its center environmental and epistemic justice in critically examining how and in what ways race and regimes of racial knowledge shape and inform our scholarly practices, public policies, and normative concerns. Scholars have recognized the complex ways in which the environmental justice movement has shaped and changed aspects of the cultures of scientific and technological practice. This curricular initiative will build and extend this recognition in leveraging Wake Forest's enduring commitment to the liberal arts and the distinctive humanistic vision at the core of our Program in African American Studies and our Environment and Sustainability Program. By bringing together these two distinctive intellectual projects, this initiative draws on the critical theories, methods, and knowledge of these two fields in creating a novel curriculum and a collaborative intellectual space that contributes new knowledge about the environment and the protocols of race and racialization in the United States. A major aim of this effort is to develop a collaborative curricular model that not only focuses on ongoing struggle for environmental justice, but also one that leverages the critical strengths of scholarly and local knowledges in consciously advancing epistemic justice. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to cultivate a new generation of students and scholars who understand that a critical and complex knowledge of race and processes of racialization are not incidental, but central to comprehending and responding to our current environmental crisis.
Essential Functions:
• Collaborates with the PI to develop and administer grant programs and activities, communicates
with campus and community partners, researches and analyzes issues in environmental justice
and race, and organizes and coordinates the initiative's campus and public events and activities.
• Assists in the dissemination of initiative activities and research via webpage content, social
media, academic presentations and written articles.
• Assists in communication and interaction with various initiative constituencies, including but not
limited to attendance at meetings, written correspondence, participation at seminars and
programs, etc.
• Creates and implements opportunities to enhance engagement between the university and
community.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree with relevant work, volunteer or internship experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficiency in technical and computer skills including MS Office; Word, Excel, the Internet and
other relevant software, plus operation of standard office equipment.
• Ability to research, assemble, and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports.
• Ability to manage and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and demonstrate sound
judgment and discretion.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
in a diverse community.
• Detail oriented in coordinating activities and completing assignments.
• Ability to work independently.
• Hold an interest in education, inclusion and equity.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Experience in Google Sites development, design, and maintenance and/or;
• Experience with Makerspace tools and/or;
• Experience with survey instrument design, implementation and analysis.
