Position Responsibilities
The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Physical Therapy, located in the College of Health Professions, is seeking to fill three part-time Unity game engine programmer positions in Dr. James Thomas' summer 2023 Motor Control Laboratory (MCL). The MCL is a state-of-the-art lab with a focus on development of novel VR interventions for health care. Our team consists of a lab manager, a full-time VR programmer, a study coordinator, PhD students, and Kinesiology interns (movr.vcu.edu). The primary responsibility of this position will be to work with Dr. Thomas and our VR programmer to 1) translate our MoVR suite of games from the VIVE platform to the Picon Neo3 headset, 2) assist in refinement of VR surgical training software, and 3) develop innovative VR tools for rehabilitation. VR development is done under the direct supervision of Dr. Thomas with input from the MCL team. The selected candidate will be encouraged to fully engage in development of next-generation VR applications.
Required Qualifications
- Must have at least 3 years of experience working with the Unity game engine
- Completion of at least 3 years of a computer science degree
- Must be proficient in C# programming language as well as data communication pipelines
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Experience with virtual reality development
