IDD Community Stabilization Outreach Coordinator - UW-Madison, Waisman Center
The University of Wisconsin - Madison, Waisman Center has contracted with Dane County Human Services for a new position within the center's Community Outreach Wisconsin (COW) program. This is a great job for a candidate interested in helping strengthen Dane County's community’s response for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who experience a co-occurring mental health crisis. The new position offers a great opportunity for a creative self-starter, interested in program development, problem solving, and cross-system collaboration. It will interface with local emergency services provider, Journey Mental Health, local law enforcement, long term care funders and providers and most importantly people with IDD in the lead-up to and recovery from an acute behavioral crisis. This position is a staff member within the Community Outreach Wisconsin (COW), University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) work unit located at 122 E. Olin Avenue. This position will develop, coordinate and implement--in close collaboration with Dane County Human Services, Journey Mental Health Center--the provision of DHS Chap 34 Crisis Stabilization services to Dane County residents with intellectual disabilities who are at high risk of experiencing a mental health crisis. Working closely with Community TIES Behavior Outreach consultants, this position will coordinate the provision of culturally sensitive, recovery oriented, and trauma sensitive, direct clinical crisis stabilization services to eligible Dane County residents.
This position is not (!) a first responder. The position provides short-term pro-active crisis prevention planning and post-crisis follow-up service coordination. This position will also research and create program policies and procedures and provide ongoing training to Waisman Center Community Outreach staff and affiliated programs in Dane county to integrate the utilization of Crisis Stabilization services in a manner that compliments long-term care services typically provided under the Family Care and IRIS programs to Dane County residents with IDD.
Education: Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) preferred
License/Certification: CSW - Certified Social WorkerState Licensure required, LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker - State Licensure preferred
Clinical supervisor towards acquisition of LCSW license will be provided (!)
Qualifications/Required experience:
- Three years of experience providing service coordination support to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and/or mental illness in community settings. Relevant student and/or volunteer experience may be considered.
- One year of experience in supporting mental health needs of individuals with IDD including managing crisis situations and/or providing mental health services.
Salary Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months) depending on Qualifications.

A valid driver's license that meets UW Risk Management standards is required. The incumbent must provide his/her own transportation to sites. This position will require travel to various locations within the Dane county area. This position will be located at 122 East Olin Ave, Madison, WI. Free parking is available.
Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, but occasional evening and weekend hours for trainings or attending conferences may be required. Partial remote work possible.
