Job Summary

The University of Utah College of Nursing ( CON) is seeking post-doctoral candidates to continue their doctoral training as part of a mentored program and to participate in collaborative team science with other CON faculty, post-doctoral trainees, and students. This program requires a full-time commitment with the option to study in residence or be distance-based with intensive on-site experiences.

These traineeships will focus on social determinants of health and systems and models of care that align with new innovations and imperatives in science focused on health inequities. Training will build on our program's strength in family caregiver research as an exemplar of a social determinant of health and leverages the breadth of College of Nursing faculty research and University of Utah (UU) research centers to support opportunities for developing multi-level health interventions to address health inequities using data science, pragmatic interventions, and community engagement.

We seek to push boundaries by ensuring nurse scientist training integrates community and societal levels of influence. This is accomplished by partnering with interdisciplinary faculty to address NINR's guiding principles to support research that is innovative; advances equity, diversity, and inclusion; tackles today's pressing health challenges and stimulates discoveries to prepare for, prevent, or address tomorrow's challenges; and discovers solutions to optimize health across clinical, community, and policy settings.

Each trainee will participate in a two-year program (year two is contingent upon performance) consisting of a combination of mentored research and career development, seminars, a journal club, trainee interest groups, visiting scholars, conference-based learning, grant writing club, and course work. These scientists will gain the knowledge, expertise, and leadership skills to lead innovative programs of research.

In addition to an annual salary based on experience, each fellow will have $1,000 available for travel to a conference related to their research focus and $1,000 for research-related expenses.

The College of Nursing is an integral part of University of Utah Health. The CON prepares nurses at all education levels and is among the top 20 nursing schools in the US for National Institutes of Health research funding. In 2017, it was the first recipient of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing New Era for Academic Nursing award. In collaboration with University of Utah Health, the College works to improve individual, family, and community health and quality of life. We are committed to recruiting individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and those from economically, socially, culturally or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. We strive for excellence in education, research and scholarship, and clinical care, each mission being vital to one another and to our overall success. Diversity and inclusiveness, independent inquiry, and collegiality form the fabric of everyday life for faculty and students. Please visit our website for more information about the University of Utah College of Nursing, https://nursing.utah.edu/.
