Job Summary

Develops and supports translational research for our breast and gynecologic team at Huntsman Cancer Institute. Collaborates with multiple departments, and works closely with Disease Center leadership to develop and support industry-sponsored, pilot, and correlative studies and other key projects and initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Plans, develops and establishes new programs and conferences to meet identified needs of educational and research groups. Provides project management, including tracking of needs, priorities, and status of projects.
  • Understands the clinical research enterprise at HCI; engages and collaborates with HCI clinical trials teams, research administration, and shared resources. Serves as a resource to the BGCC Disease Center to navigate existing research resources at HCI.
  • Ensures the team is aware of established goals and regularly provides status updates. Assesses the past performance of research and makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Contributes to BGCC Disease Center operations with staff by involvement in hiring, training, establishing goals, and evaluating performance.
  • Develops and contributes to Disease Center functions, such as EDI and community outreach and engagement. Identifies needs and proposes ideas to engage with our community to realize HCI's vision to deliver a cancer-free frontier.
Reporting structure

This position would be an integrated member into the Disease Center administration team, with reporting to the BGCC Leader(s) and Disease Centers Sr. Manager.

Responsibilities and Oversight
  • With the input of leadership, this position is responsible for leading projects and tasks through to completion.
  • Attend monthly planning and leadership meetings and provide relevant updates. Supports and participates
  • Key member of the biorepository committee and work closely with the committee leaders. Contribute to best practices between research groups.
  • Collaborate and partner with the Total Cancer Care (TCC) and BMP teams.
  • Assist in setting short and long-term goals.
  • Assist in annual budget development and management.
  • Develop and carry out internal audits of databases, source documents, etc. Assist with institutional audits with IRB amendments as needed.
  • Work with Disease Center leadership to prioritize key initiatives and programmatic work; serve as a project manager for the Disease Center and assist with special projects and events as needed. Identify problems and develop/implement strategies in order to meet recruitment and collection goals.
  • Participate in Disease Center administrative team meetings. Contribute content on activities for Disease Center reporting, assist with information for patient newsletters, suggest website updates, and contribute to other communication and reports.
Expectations:

Employee may have a hybrid work schedule, working both remotely as well as on-site. Employees may need to provide their own home office space, internet connection, telephone, and have the ability to work independently. While schedules will be adjusted based on the needs of the programs and individuals involved, we expect that the position may require up to 3 days of work to be performed on-site each week.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
