Job Summary:

The Pediatric Critical Care Division at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Biostatistician I to join the Data Coordinating Center ( DCC). The DCC provides data management, project management and statistical support for multicenter, investigator-initiated and industry clinical research studies of various diseases and medical fields, including Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Care Medicine, Cardiology, Pediatric Colorectal, Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis, Concussion, Hydrocephalus, Neuromyelitis Optica and Scleroderma. This is an exciting opportunity to provide statistical support for DCC projects.

Responsibilities

Job Description:

This position will provide statistical support for clinical research studies within the Division of Critical Care, Department of Pediatrics of the University of Utah School of Medicine. Specifically, the primary areas of responsibility will be as follows:

1. Works collaboratively with investigators on study manuscripts, with direction from the supervising and faculty statisticians. This includes creating Manuscript Analysis Plans (MAPs), reviewing/writing the manuscript, and tracking manuscript progress. (20%)

2. Creates analysis datasets and associated dataset specifications. (20%)

3. Prepares and communicates study results in oral and written summary (e.g., tables, figures and reports), with direction from study statistical team as needed. (15%)

4. Works collaboratively with the supervising statistician and study statistical team to support project needs. This includes completing quality assurance procedures and ensuring statistical documentation is current. (15%)

5. Works collaboratively with study team to support project needs and provide statistical perspective during all project stages (planning, enrollment, and post enrollment). This includes creating reports and reviewing study materials prepared by other team members. (10%)

6. Reviews data for discrepancies and works with the study team to resolve discrepancies. This includes descriptive summaries of analysis variables and general data checks. (5%)

7. In consultation with supervising statistician, successfully negotiates timelines and manages competing deadlines. (5%)

8. Actively expands own knowledge and understanding of statistical methods and programming. (5%)

9. Conforms to statistical and shared data coordinating center working guidelines and standard operating procedures. (5%)

Qualifications:

Familiarity with standard statistical analysis procedures with a minimum of a BS degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field. General programming skills or familiarity with at least one statistical programming language such as SAS or R with the ability to independently gain new skills and solve difficult programming challenges. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and manage deadlines, and good communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires familiarity with standard statistical analysis procedures with a minimum of a BS degree in statistics, biostatistics, a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); General programming skills or familiarity with at least one statistical programming language such as SAS or R with the ability to independently gain new skills and solve difficult programming challenges; Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is necessary; An ability to work on several projects simultaneously and manage deadlines, and good communication skills.

Preferences:

Candidates with clinical or pharmaceutical research experience will be given preference. Advanced SAS programming skills, including data manipulation, are an asset.
