Access Coordinator (Student Services Professional 1 – MR07)

The Access Coordinator will be the first point of contact for any student requesting disability accommodation at UTC. The position will receive requests and effectively engage in an interactive process and manage the system by which those requests are handled. The Access Coordinator will make recommendations for reasonable accommodations and engage in conversations with faculty regarding the essential function of the courses when necessary. The position will maintain awareness of access issues in the changing landscape of higher education in the virtual environment. In addition, the position will stay abreast of the rapidly growing innovative technology that allows equal access for individuals with disabilities. The Access Coordinator will stay educated in the growing field of innovative technology and provide training and workshops regarding these technologies and administer the DRC student database.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the Accommodation request process for students with disabilities through evaluation of documentation, interactive interviews, and conversations with faculty to determine reasonable accommodations; research best practices regarding the interactive processes and accessibility in the virtual environment, including managing technology and accommodate database; and assist other team members in outreach and education for campus.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Knowledge of the requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Ability to enter and work through the interactive process with students
  • Communication skills necessary to mediate between faculty and students
  • Knowledge of virtual environment with higher education
  • Competency with web-based platforms
  • Ability to guide the work of others

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree; minimum of one year working with college age people with disabilities in a higher education setting; good organizational skills; effective problem-solving skills; and ability to interact professionally with campus partners.
