Job Description Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director of Exhibitions, the Senior Graphic Designer, Exhibitions is responsible for conceptualization and implementation of design solutions for temporary and permanent exhibition elements from concept to completion in a wide range of graphic applications including: environmental graphics, collateral materials, video titling, multimedia interfaces and tools. The Senior Graphic Designer, Exhibitions plays a lead role on any given exhibition project, working as a key member of an integrated, highly collaborative team that includes content developers, curators, researchers, exhibit designers, audio-visual designers, and fabricators. Reporting to the Director of Exhibitions, he/she/they presents visual solutions to the exhibition team and helps to communicate strategies behind design, working from conceptualization to completion. Working both internally and with outside print and multimedia vendors, the Senior Graphic Designer, Exhibitions ensures graphic elements are produced on time and within budget.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Develop schematic concepts for design approach including approaches for exhibition logos, style guides, text panels, murals, specials, and overall branding identity of exhibition elements.
- Fully design and prepare all final graphic element packages including exhibition labels, text panels, murals, specials, multimedia elements, small printed materials, etc. for all for permanent and temporary exhibits and displays.
- Hold meetings with exhibit team, especially exhibition interpretive planners and designers to create a design that visually supports exhibition themes, cultural understanding, and promotes content accessibility for visitors to the Museum.
- Supervise the production of graphics with outside vendors, creating graphic packages circulated for RFPs, communicating intended outcomes, and coordinating installation schedules.
- Manage the overall sharing and organizing of files for exhibition presentations in book and/or digital format, specifically as related to milestone deadlines within the exhibition process.
- Manage the organization of all exhibition files to a cohesive archive of each exhibition including photo documentation of the exhibition, compilation of all related materials and organization of final files into archived online database.
- Oversee graphic installation with preparations team and outside vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic, Communication Design, or related field and 5 to 7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
- Experience quoting and managing print jobs as well as working with vendors essential.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented with an ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects at once and strong oral and written skills.
- Experience designing graphics for exhibitions and working in/or with museums preferred, with an emphasis on collaborative working environments.
- Demonstrated ability in designing for print and multimedia applications with proficiency working in the Macintosh platform and a good working knowledge of the latest versions of the Adobe Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is recommended.
- Knowledge of materials and production methods used to create exhibit graphics required, with a demonstrated success in visually communicating to a wide variety of audiences.

Targeted Pay Range
- $43,919 - $70,000. Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
