Job Description

The Marc Johnson lab, located at the Bond Life Sciences Center. As a Senior Research/Lab Technician, you'll be part of a collaborative team focused on advancing scientific knowledge and innovation in environmental science and molecular biology.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain meticulous records of samples received from Missouri and other out-of-state sewer sheds.
  • Conduct nucleic acid extractions from Missouri sewer shed wastewater and occasional environmental samples.
  • Coordinate timing of wastewater extractions with internal lab personnel and collaborating qPCR lab.
  • Operate efficiently within defined timeframes for nucleic acid processing.
  • Prepare necessary reagents for Missouri wastewater extractions.
  • Manage and upkeep equipment used in nucleic acid extractions and concentration; troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
  • Monitor and replenish inventory of supplies required for wastewater extraction procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to undergraduate students in wastewater extraction techniques.
  • Collect and maintain records of incoming packages and mail at the Bond Life Sciences Center for the lab.
  • When feasible, engage in learning and performing cell culture techniques; commonly used assays include G-Luc assays and Flow Cytometry, with potential for more advanced techniques such as Western Blots.
  • Assist graduate students by preparing and running agarose gels, as time permits.
  • Undertake general lab duties as required.

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $19.00-$27.00 per hour

Grade: GGS-006
