Job Summary
To provide a Support Staff role to the Chandler Blood Bank
• Blood Cooler: packing, handing out, retuning, cleaning, and cooler documentation (including cooler temperature data logger download and cooling panels preparation)
• Blood Bank supply: receiving, stocking, and supply documentation
• Blood products: preparing red cell segments for testing, sorting, and stocking blood products from new shipment; labeling short-dated blood products; pulling segments from group O Red cells for blood bank emergency shelf
• Tube system: Secure Send blood products, receive tubes from PTS
• Specimen: sorting and spinning specimen
• VISION Instrument: loading specimen to VISION for testing and restocking gel cards to instrument
• Thawing plasma: thawing plasma when needed
• Daily refrigerator/freezer/platelet rotator temperature and door alarm check
• Cell washer PM and additional equipment PM as needed
• Blood delivery: performing patient ID verification and handing out blood products and cooler from the blood bank to the transporter (blood products are issued in the computer by BB tech)
• Others as needed
This position has been identified as supporting UK HealthCare, which receives funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Therefore, all individuals hired into this position must comply with the federal CMS mandate issued in March of 2022. This mandate requires all new hires to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption as a condition of employment. Start of employment cannot occur until two weeks after receiving the full COVID-19 vaccination series or upon obtaining an approved exemption. Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization can be accepted.
