Primary responsibilities are:
Leadership
- Supervises all full-time and part-time ISSS staff and student workers.
- Ensures effectiveness and efficiency of human resources in ISSS.
- Ensures accuracy of timesheets of the ISSS staff and approves them biweekly.
- Supervises International Center and ELP staff when the Associate Provost is not available.
- Oversees international student and scholar support services, which includes F-1 students and J-1 students and scholars.
- Oversees students with other non-immigrant visa types (i.e. H, L, F-2, J-2, A, R, etc.).
- Interpret and incorporate regulatory changes into internal policies and procedures. Oversee the documentation of policies and procedures to ensure consistency in advising practices across ISSS team.
- Provides in-depth immigration advising services to international students, foreign visiting scholars, Rowan faculty and staff.
- Advises students and scholars on working in the US, applying for driver's license, applying for SSN, transferring to a new school or taking leave of absence and providing supporting letters as needed.
- Acts as a liaison between the International Center and campus student and support services, such as Housing, Advising, Admissions, Student Affairs, Wellness Center, Bursar, and Registrar.
- Ensures that international students and scholars are integrated into campus life and culture.
- Develops policies and procedures related to international student and scholar services and continually works toward the overall improvement of the International Center processes and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness of services.
- Ensures inquiries from students and scholars are responded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Serves as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO).
- Serves as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
- Ensures International Student and Scholar Service web pages are up-to-date.
- Ensures international student and scholar data in Banner and Terra Dotta is accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
- Serves as point of contact for Terra Dotta functions and day-to-day operations.
- Performs PDSO functions for the university and serves as the main point of contact for issues related to SEVIS and SEVP
- Prepares and submits materials necessary for SEVIS Recertification for F-1 visa program.
- When necessary, updates the University's I-17 Form by submitting all changes to SEVP for approval including programs of study, accreditations and recognitions, school calendar, costs, and demographics, campuses, instructional sites and officials.
- Ensures the J-1 program redesignation is done accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintains active SEVIS users' records and verifies their information when necessary.
- Tracks and certifies students' full-time enrollment and registers all students in SEVIS.
- Submit student and program data correction requests to SEVIS or SEVIS help desk.
- Updates I-20 and DS-2019 cost of attendance information annually and communicate it to admission specialists and other stakeholders.
- Collaborates with International Admissions team to ensure timely issuance of I-20 and DS-2019 documents.
- Ensures 100% compliance with related federal regulations.
- Organize and deliver international student orientations and move-in days for incoming international students, arrange make-up orientation sessions when necessary and individual orientation sessions for GSBS and SOM students.
- Plans and implements international student activities and events, in particular: Annual visit to Penn Museum, End of Year Appreciation Party, and Featured Friday events. Creates new extracurricular activities and encourages attendance to events and workshops.
- Prepares a comprehensive calendar for International Education Week by fully organizing, sponsoring or co-sponsoring international events on campus. Examples of past events include: Free Coffee and Bagel, International Thanksgiving Lunch and Potluck, and International Dance Night. Include other related on-campus events like lectures, information tables, and gatherings.
- Plan and implement multiple OPT & CPT employment workshops throughout the year.
- Serves as advisor to the International Club on social and cultural events and provide opportunities for US resident students to engage with international students through these events.
- Oversees the budget for ISSS, student orientation, and extracurricular activities.
- Generates international student & scholar reports that include enrollment and participation statistics per semester.
- Support Associate Provost's international initiatives.
- Represent the unit at events, meetings, conferences, and fairs when needed.
- Master's degree in administration, education, international education, higher education administration or a related area required.
- Five years of experience working with immigration regulations in a university setting including significant experience as Designated School Official and/or Alternate Responsible Officer and progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills required.
