Job Description
The successful candidate is expected to provide visionary academic and administrative leadership and energize the faculty in advancing MAE research productivity. The Chair is expected to provide leadership in departmental education, research, and outreach activities in alignment with the strategic plan of the College and the University. Specific responsibilities include planning and executing strategic initiatives for the department; mentoring and supporting faculty and staff; supporting key research thrusts in the department and the college; fostering interdisciplinary research and industry partnerships; improving curriculum design and leading accreditation efforts; demonstrating commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; working closely with the advisory board of the department; performing research and scholarly activities; and teaching courses in related areas.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarly accomplishments, including peer-reviewed publications, externally funded and internationally recognized research program. Candidates must possess strong leadership and communication skills and be able to articulate a vision for advancing the education and research mission of the department through partnerships with the industry and the government. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong commitment to shared governance practices, transparency, consensus building, and collaborative leadership values.
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
The candidate must have earned a doctoral degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field and be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure.
Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in academic leadership roles such as department chair or director of research centers is also desirable.
