Job Description
SERVER/ASSISTANT TO THE CHEF, Office of the President, to partner with the chef on the planning, preparation, and execution of all aspects of the functions in two memorial rooms. Events are attended by senior officers and administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, members of the MIT Women’s League, and guests of the Institute. Will be responsible for the primary table service for all events and provide sanitation and maintenance support for the function rooms. Duties will include food preparation, clearing tables, dishwashing, cleaning rooms, overseeing temporary catering staff, and other tasks as needed.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a high school diploma or its equivalent; two years of hotel or restaurant fine dining experience in a service/waitstaff position; ability to communicate effectively with and be attentive to guests, work closely with others, and adapt to change; discretion with confidential information; and ability to lift and move chairs and folding tables weighing up to 50 pounds. Certification in ServSafe Alcohol Training or Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) will be required within 180 days of hire date and will need to be maintained while employed in this position. Overtime and flexibility to staff occasional weekend and evening functions is required. There will be at least a few weeks off in the summer when the hospitality associate will be expected to use vacation time.
This is a fully-benefited, full-time (35 hrs/wk.) MIT position providing health, dental, and vision coverage; paid vacation, sick and holiday time; uniform reimbursement; retirement planning; and a subsidized MBTA pass.
