Job Summary

Provides leadership to the FIU Foundation, subsidiaries and Direct Support Organization's management, including vision, supervision, and consistency with the goals and objectives of the University, Division of Business & Finance and University Advancement. Oversees the accounting and financial reporting functions consistent with essential goals as noted.
  • Oversees the preparation and/or review all general accounting and financial reporting as required, consistent with sound internal controls, including monthly and annual reconciliations, financial statements and related analytical review as appropriate. Ensures accuracy and completeness for monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing including audits.
  • Supervises and guides staff as it relates to monthly and annual financial reporting duties.
  • Serves as liaison to internal and external auditors, by providing work papers as required and coordinating data requests as needed.
  • Works with University departments to understand accounting and reporting business needs, and develops solutions as appropriate, including coordination of appropriate projects with the Office of Financial Planning and Financial Systems and Support Services.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to the accounting and reporting functions regarding compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, University policy and procedures, and other laws, policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Provides assistance with the preparation, administration and oversight of department's annual operational budget as assigned. Monitors and gathers activity data, analyzes trends, and prepares analytical and statistical reports for management.
  • Provides leadership for customer service delivery consistent with the goals and objectives of the University, Division of Business & Finance and University Advancement, including, but not limited to training for the University community.
  • Reviews accounting and reporting environment to look for opportunities to create and/or enhance efficiencies in reporting and the reporting process. Ensures integrity of the data entered into the financial system.
  • Provides leadership to the technology enhancements to improve customer service, accountability, human resources development and work efficiencies, including implementation of new technologies, enhancements of existing systems, and functional lead for PeopleSoft system general ledger upgrades consistent with the University, Division of Business and Finance, and the Office of the Controller.
  • Assists the Controller in interpreting and implementing new accounting pronouncements. Develops internal procedures to improve workflow inefficiencies. Assists the Controller with special projects.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. Is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting and six (6) years of related experience or Master's degree in Accounting and four (4) years of related experience.
