The School of Nursing, in the College of Health, Science & Public Health at Eastern Washington University is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for our full time Simulation Lab Assistant position.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and caring faculty and staff committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to excellence in serving the community.

The simulation lab assistant reports to the director of simulation. This individual has primary responsibility for coordinating instructional support activities in the Nursing Program. The position will assist faculty and clinical instructors who teach in the skills laboratory and simulation suites. The simulation lab assistant provides technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of equipment such as human patient simulators and their associated hardware, software, and audiovisual equipment. This position provides support in developing simulation demonstrations.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in allied health, technical education, or related field
Some experience in healthcare simulation (via internship or work-related training)
Organizational skills and the ability to follow directions
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities
Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years experience in healthcare simulation
Knowledge of patient simulation services, technologies, and applications
Strong computer skills, including use of MS Office, Google Suite, and Canvas or other learning management system
Experience in healthcare field
Previous experience operating human patient simulators (manikins)

Responsibility / Duty: Faculty Assistance 45%

Set up, prep, and take down skills labs, open lab practice sessions, and simulations
Operate audiovisual and simulation technology
Develop instructional programs, demonstration models and laboratory procedures in conjunction with assigned faculty
Coordinate preparation for laboratory programs and field-oriented courses using safety procedures in handling sharps.
Instruct faculty in the operation of audiovisual and simulation technology
Collaborate and serve as a resource for faculty in the use of simulation
Collaborate to develop and maintain laboratory materials and manuals

Responsibility / Duty: Laboratory Maintenance and Safety 30%

Assist the lab manager to develop safe laboratory procedures
Monitor the laboratories for compliance with safety policies and procedures
Orient faculty and students on safety policies and procedures
Assure safe management of sharps disposal and simulated medications
Act as coordinator of laboratory controlling all equipment and use of space
Inspect, tests, adjusts and does repair of laboratory support equipment
Evaluate equipment specifications and make purchase recommendations
Ensure all equipment is maintained within manufacturer recommendations
Coordinate laboratory support, maintenance and store room functions
Schedule routine preventive maintenance for human patient simulators
Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory materials, supplies and equipment
Maintain clean laboratories facilities
Other related duties as assigned

Responsibility / Duty: Administrative Duties 25%

Assist with creating and managing lab and simulation schedules
Keep records of student attendance in scheduled laboratory and simulation labs
Assist director to maintain records of laboratory and simulation suite usage

Conditions of Employment:

Salary Information: The salary for this position is $48,648 (minimum) up to $56,352. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.
