This type of appointment is not approved to work more than 999 hours per year for all positions combined. Should incumbents work more than a total of 999 hours in a year the appointment may not continue beyond one year of service.

Accountabilities:
The Event DJ is responsible for providing entertainment and music services at various social events, parties and gatherings on campus. This position requires a passion for music, excellent knowledge of different genres, and the ability to create an energetic, engaging, and enjoyable atmosphere for the college community.
Responsibilities also include:
Event Preparation:
  • Coordinate with event organizers to understand the theme, audience, and specific music preferences.
  • Create playlists or select tracks suitable for the event.
  • Set up and test audio equipment before each event.
  • Live DJ Performance:
    • Use DJ equipment, including turntables, mixers, and controllers, to mix and play music.
    • Read the crowd and adjust the playlist to maintain a lively and engaging atmosphere.
    • Interact with the audience and take song requests when appropriate.


  • Technical Expertise:
    • Stay updated on the latest music trends, equipment, and DJ techniques.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues with audio equipment during events.
  • Time Management:
    • Adhere to event schedules and timelines.
    • Ensure a smooth transition between different segments of an event through well-planned transitions in the music.
  • Communication:
    • Collaborate with event organizers and other staff members to ensure seamless coordination.
    • Communicate effectively with the audience, making announcements and engaging the crowd.
  • Adaptability:
    • Be flexible in accommodating diverse music preferences and adapting to different event atmospheres.
    • Adjust the music style based on the demographic and mood of the audience.
  • Professionalism:
    • Maintain a professional demeanor.
    • Respect venue policies and guidelines.
  • Promotion:
    • Assist in promoting events through social media and other channels.
    • Collaborate with event organizers to enhance the overall experience for attendees.


Professional Experience/Qualifications
  • Passion for music and a deep understanding of various genres.
  • Knowledge of DJ equipment and software.
  • Communication skills.
  • Ability to read the crowd and adapt music accordingly.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for audio equipment.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Professional and responsible conduct.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as a Colgate University student.
  • Has their own equipment.
