Position Summary:
Supports the fundraising efforts of the university by carrying out proactive and reactive prospect research on corporations and foundations. Works collaboratively with the director of corporate and foundation relations and development officers to develop strategies for corporations and philanthropic foundations. Assists Advancement staff in developing concept papers, letters of intent, grant evaluations, and proposals for corporate and foundation donors. This includes idea generation, writing, and proofing. Leads all grant portal submissions.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
Two years of related experience.
Computer experience, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Effective verbal and strong written communication skills.
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
A collegial team building style with a proven ability to work effectively with people who possess different work styles and methods.
A proven track record in meeting goals and objectives.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to proactively engage faculty and/or grant program officers by phone, videoconference, e-mail, and in person, as needed.
Excellent organization skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
General understanding of the structure of higher education and familiarity with a college environment.
Knowledge of online and internet resources/search engines.
Awareness of fundraising strategies in higher education.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Proactively works to find available state, federal, corporate, and philanthropic grant opportunities and matches those opportunities to appropriate faculty on CMU's campus.
Works collaboratively with the executive director of corporate and foundation relations and the director of the Office of Business Engagement to develop strategies for corporations.
Analyzes information from in-house files, published materials and online computer databases to prepare written confidential profiles for corporate/foundation prospects; updates profiles as needed.
Provides sensitive, confidential informational reports.
Provides proactive research and identification of major gift prospects for cultivation and solicitation through review/analysis of publications and online resources.
Stays current on journals and newspapers; scan publications/news alerts for new information on prospects/potential prospects and distribute/research accordingly.
Provides ongoing monitoring of contact reports and inputting pertinent information into the main database system.
Updates database system with relevant researched information and assist in monitoring prospect tracking/management module of the database.
