Chief of Police
The City of Elmira is currently recruiting for a Chief of Police for the Elmira Police Department. Our mission is to ensure the safety and security of the community by providing exemplary law enforcement services. Our current department is composed of 72 Police Officers, a Deputy Chief and Police Chief. This administrative position is responsible for all police functions, including planning and directing law enforcement activities on a large scale.
The next Chief of Police will be an accessible and visible member of the community and work collaboratively to meet the high expectations of residents in an environment that is growing. This candidate will be a part of the City’s leadership team, partner with other departments and encourage officer participation on cross-functional teams to achieve organization-wide and community goals.
Candidates for this position must be a sworn officer in New York State and have 10 years of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer with a municipal police force which includes three years of supervisory or command experience, and meet Civil Service requirements.
