Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Salary: $53,151

The Coordinator of TESOL Programs for the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership, within the College of Community and Public Affairs, reports directly to the Senior Director of Academic Affairs and Clinical Partnerships and is responsible for the following:

Enrollment and Advisement:
  • Assisting students with enrollment, degree planning, updating plans of study, assisting students with course registration and advisement-related questions
  • Overseeing the development, organization, and management of The TLEL Advanced Student Hub
  • Recording student progress including completion of graduation, the program of requirements and conditions of admission
  • Monitoring and recordkeeping admissions, enrollment, and pending actions for advising program faculty and department chair
  • Attending TESOL orientations
  • Recordkeeping and monitoring students' foreign language requirements
  • Consulting with TESOL directors through regular meetings
  • Coordinating with the Associate Director of Student Services Taskstream for the online advanced programs
  • Monitoring and recordkeeping online program enrollment, and pending actions for advising program faculty and department chair
Clinical Field Placements:
  • Coordinating fieldwork and internship experiences across the TESOL programs
  • Working with TLEL faculty on matches; corresponding with students, cooperating teachers, administrators, and university-based supervisors throughout the placement process
  • Organization and execution of MOUs to secure field placement sites
  • Organization and coordination of clinical experience office recordkeeping and documentation
  • Assisting in solving interpersonal communication problems that may arise between teacher candidates, mentor teachers/cooperating teachers, and supervisors
  • Recordkeeping and reviewing all field- and course-based professional disposition concern reports (with Senior Director and TESOL directors)
  • Collaborating with TESOL directors on meeting state internship requirements for TESOL
  • Coordinating with the Associate Director of Student Services Taskstream operations for the online advanced programs
  • Assisting the Senior Director with assessment and accreditation-related activities and reporting

Requirements:


Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant experience in higher education, K-12 education, advising, counseling, teaching, or other academic affairs/student services-related experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the educational role of academic advising in enhancing student learning and development
  • Evidence of building and maintaining partnerships with school districts and/or community organizations/campus departments
  • Familiarity with monitoring student progress
  • Ability to manage several high-priority tasks at once
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience building and maintaining spreadsheets
Preferred:
  • Master's degree
  • Familiarity with ESL/ELL/ESOL/Bilingual/TESOL fields
  • Knowledge of New York State teacher preparation programs, field education, and certification requirements, knowledge of Binghamton University student services policies and procedures, and campus resources
  • Experience as a cooperating teacher and/or supervisor of student teachers
  • Familiarity with schools and districts in New York State
  • Experience in student programming, developing, coordinating, and conducting workshops, events, and/or programs for an online population
  • Experience with the use of technology and experience with Brightspace, Microsoft Suite, Banner, Slate, and/or other student management software
